In a recent decision by the Supreme Court, the vaccine mandate from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) is moving forward. As a reminder, this federal mandate includes regulation that contains strict and specific guidelines related to COVID-19 vaccinations for healthcare facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid services.
In accordance with the mandate, we are now required to ensure that all team members be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive a medical or religious exemption by Monday, February 28, 2022. At this time, a fully vaccinated adult includes receiving either two doses of Pfizer, two doses of Moderna, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson. As outlined in the past, compliance is monitored by survey processes, such as the Joint Commission, and non-compliance may result in removal from CMS programs and heavy financial penalties.
Communication with next steps and more complete details will be sent shortly to those team members who, according to our records, are not fully vaccinated and/or team members who had submitted a religious or medical exemption in November.
I ask that each of us be mindful of the sensitivity surrounding this topic. We are one team, and, on behalf of the leadership team, I expect that our attitudes and behaviors towards each other reflect the same kindness and compassion that we share with our patients.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to a member of the management team.
