OrthoNebraska is proud to announce the achievement of a 5-Star Overall Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Out of 3,662 hospitals nationwide to be rated, less than three percent (102 total) hospitals received the 5-Star Overall Rating. This news comes shortly after OrthoNebraska was also named one of the Best Hospitals in the United States by U.S. News and World Report.
The Overall Star Rating program is meant to assist patients and their family members when comparing healthcare facilities and offer meaningful data in a simple, understandable format. The Star Ratings are calculated using 64 existing quality measures across seven different measure groups. These measures provide a comprehensive picture of hospital performance, and include specific measures from the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program and Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting Program. The measures are categorized into three areas:
- Process of Care measures – these are measures from data extracted from patient records and submitted to the CMS clinical data warehouse
- Claims-Based Outcomes measures – these measures are calculated using Medicare Part A hospital claims
- Healthcare-Associated Infection data – this data is from the CDC National Healthcare Safety Network
“We are proud to once again be recognized as a top healthcare provider in the nation,” said Levi Scheppers, Chief Executive Officer of OrthoNebraska. “Providing the highest quality of care and patient satisfaction is what this hospital is built on, and we continue to meet those goals.”
The hospital was recently named the 44th overall Best Hospital for Orthopaedics by U.S. News & World Report. OrthoNebraska was the only hospital in the state of Nebraska to be ranked in the Top 50 for any specialty. This achievement, combined with the CMS Star rating, puts the hospital in a very elite group that features some of the most recognizable names in the healthcare world, including Mayo Clinic and Hospital for Special Surgery.
