My specialty area is primarily orthopedic sports medicine, mostly involving knee procedures—especially cartilage work and ligament work. I’ve been with OrthoNebraska since 1988, when I moved here from the U.S. Naval Academy. Two other gentlemen and I started our side of the practice in 1990, and I’ve also been a personal user of the OrthoNebraska experience.

I’m a serious runner, and I had gotten to the point where I couldn’t run anymore. I also had a really hard time golfing because it was my left knee that went bad first, and I couldn’t swing properly. Fortunately, I recovered really well and got back to everything I wanted to do.
I’ve had two knee replacements and three other minor procedures at the hospital, and everything has always been very efficient and positive. The most interesting thing for me was during my knee replacements—my first time, I stayed overnight; the next time, I went home the same day. What really stood out was how great the nursing staff was.

When I see patients now, I tell them about my own experiences because I think it helps make them more comfortable. The staffing ratio is excellent, so they can really take care of you. You can see it in their smiles—they’re not frustrated, they’re happy doing what they’re doing. I also had some great physical therapists afterward, and I can’t emphasize enough how important that is, especially after a knee replacement.

Right now, I really have no limitations. I can do whatever I want, which is great.
