The Comeback Athlete of the Year scholarships recognize athletes from the communities we serve whose journey from injury back to sport can inspire others.
OrthoNebraska has treated many athletes, so we know first-hand that athletes who fight to return to the playing field after an injury possess incredible determination and awe-inspiring dedication. We’d like to honor those athletes who have bounced back from an injury to successfully return to competition.
Scholarships & Partner Award
- Four (4) $1,500 individual comeback athlete scholarships (two male & two female) will be awarded. Eligibility and application details are listed below.
- One (1) $2,500 school or organization partner donation will be awarded. The service, dedication, and effort of sports programs and schools play a huge role in getting athletes to where they are today. OrthoNebraska will award one school or sports organization with a $2,500 donation for facility or equipment upgrades. Application details are listed below.
Winners & Awards Reception
Winners will be announced at a Celebration and Awards Reception at OrthoNebraska Elkhorn on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 7-8pm. The reception will include a short program, recognition of all applicants, food, and light refreshments. A number of physicians and physical therapists will also be in attendance and would love the opportunity to reconnect with athletes and families.

Student Athlete Eligibility
- Candidates have visited any OrthoNebraska location and provider (physician, physical therapist or other care provider)
- Student-athlete has successfully returned to sport
- Athletes completing the application should be prepared to provide:
- Written or video essay outlining how the experience changed them and what they learned from it
- Photos (head shot, recovery, playing)
- Letter of recommendation from a coach, athletic trainer, physical therapist, strength coach, or provider who was involved in their comeback journey
School or Sports Partner Award Application
To apply for the Partner Award, include the following information in an email to comebackathlete@orthonebraska.com:
- Name of school/organization
- Name and contact information of the person submitting the application
- A 250-300 word essay that includes:
- How do you plan to utilize the donation?
- How will the donation address any current limitations or barriers?
- How will the donation impact athletes served by your school or organization?
