OrthoNebraska is growing its team of orthopedic surgeons by bringing in three new experts with additional expertise in shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist, knee, hip, joint replacement and sports medicine.
Dr. Andrew Nahr will begin seeing patients at the end of August, specializing in shoulder and elbow care, joint replacement and sports medicine. Dr. Michael Otten will join the team mid-September, with a focus on hand and wrist, elbow and sports medicine. Dr. Samuel Davidson, a total joint surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement will join the team at the end of September.
The new physicians bring specialized expertise to OrthoNebraska, along with a shared belief that treatment should be customized for the individual — their condition, their goals and what getting back to better looks like for them.
Meet Dr. Andrew Nahr: Shoulder and Elbow Care
For Dr. Andrew Nahr, joining OrthoNebraska is an opportunity to build his practice within a physician-led, highly specialized orthopedic team while also putting down roots in Omaha, closer to family.
As orthopedic care becomes increasingly complex, Dr. Nahr sees specialization as an important way to connect patients with current treatment options tailored to their specific needs.
“The same condition can often be treated in several different ways, and there is not always one right answer for everyone,” Dr. Nahr said. “Ultimately, the best treatment is the one that aligns with the patient’s goals, priorities and circumstances at that particular time.”
His specialty is also an area experiencing rapid innovation. In shoulder replacement, technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence and advanced preoperative planning are creating new opportunities to tailor procedures to individual anatomy. For rotator cuff injuries, evolving approaches such as patch augmentation are exploring ways to support tendon healing, particularly in more complex tears.
Dr. Nahr is also interested in the growing focus on whole-person health within orthopedics, including how nutrition and overall health may affect recovery. As new and alternative treatments attract more attention, he believes physicians have an important role in helping patients understand both the evidence and the unknowns so they can make informed decisions.
As he starts at OrthoNebraska, he is especially looking forward to becoming part of the community.

Meet Dr. Michael Otten: Hand, Wrist and Elbow Care
Dr. Michael Otten joins OrthoNebraska with expertise spanning hand, wrist and elbow care as well as sports medicine.
Hand and upper extremity specialists treat more than many patients may realize. In addition to common orthopedic concerns such as arthritis, traumatic injuries and sports injuries, surgery can also treat neurological conditions like peripheral nerve problems through both the upper and lower extremities.
Treatment options within hand surgery are also continuing to expand. Dr. Otten points to arthritis at the base of the thumb — the most common location for arthritis in the hand — as one example. Newer options include prosthetic implants designed to replace the affected joint.
For patients navigating these choices, Dr. Otten believes OrthoNebraska’s broad team of specialists provides an important advantage by bringing different areas of orthopedic expertise together and helping patients make informed decisions about their care.
Most of all, he wants patients to know they have someone in their corner.
“I hope patients leave their appointment feeling heard, with a comfortable plan, and knowing there is someone there to help,” Dr. Otten said.

Meet Dr. Samuel Davidson: Hip, Knee & Joint Replacement
Dr. Samuel Davidson joins OrthoNebraska at the end of September, specializing in hip and knee care as well as joint replacement. An Omaha native and Millard North alum who trained at UNL and UNMC, Dr. Davidson is returning home to care for patients in the community where he grew up.
His approach starts with listening and finding the treatment that makes sense for each patient, whether that means surgery, physical therapy, injections or simply more time.
“I want to give honest, straightforward recommendations and work together to make the best choice for each patient,” Dr. Davidson said.
He is also excited about advances in joint replacement, including robotics, muscle-sparing approaches and new implant designs to make treatment more precise. For Dr. Davidson, however, technology remains a tool that supports sound surgical judgment and patient-centered care.
