“Hopefully, we’ll just keep traveling as much as we can, and without Ortho, I could not be doing that.”
After 32 years of teaching, all the time Betty Watt had spent on her feet began to take a toll on her body. Since she first noticed pain from her arthritis, she has visited OrthoNebraska many times, ultimately receiving different treatments for her knees, hips, shoulder and spine. Then, following a flare-up of back pain that started to hold her back from her passion for traveling, Betty knew that it was time for another visit. Thanks to another successful surgery, she’s on the move again, with nothing holding her back from the trip of a lifetime.

I’m 78 years old. I’ve been retired for 21 years. I taught earth science in Plattsmouth, Nebraska for 32 of those years.
Well, when you’re a teacher, you stand a lot and you walk a lot and I had a lot of pain in both of my knees and eventually both of my hips.
Charlie and I have been married for 40 years in December. And we love to travel. We love to read and we love to travel. So, we’ve been to 76 countries, all seven continents.
We traveled to Malaysia and at times I had to stop and find a place to sit down because the left knee was just extreme pain and it’s arthritis. I have arthritis in every joint that there is.
So I knew a name at OrthoNebraska and I liked what he’d done. So that’s why I came.
I tore my meniscus and Dr. Urban did that one. And then I had the left knee replaced and the right knee replaced and both hips, and all of that was Dr. Urban.
I had problems with the shoulder, and that was Dr. Bonness.
And I’ve had, uh, sciatica with arthritis on my spine, and that was Dr. Porter.
I don’t think I was intimidated when it was time to see Dr. Porter because I’d been to OrthoNebraska so many times. And it’s not just the doctors, all the staff is just amazing.
We just got back a week and a half ago from Africa. And if I hadn’t had the knee surgeries and the hip surgeries, there’s no way that I could have done that. The pain just would have been over the top. And to get to see the gorillas was amazing.
I’ve told other people that need to have surgery that they should come to OrthoNebraska, cause they’ve treated me so well.
Hopefully, we’ll just keep traveling as much as we can and without Ortho, I could not be doing that.
